How

Type. Style. Ship.

Three steps. Zero friction. The hardest part is remembering what you shipped this week.

  1. 01

    Type your changes

Add releases. Tag each line as New, Improved, Fixed, or Breaking. We'll handle the formatting.

  2. 02

    Pick a vibe

Three layouts. Light or dark. Eight brand colors — or paste your own hex. Live preview on the right.

  3. 03

    Copy & ship

Markdown, HTML, or a public page on a Peeqback subdomain. Your call.

The basics

What is a product changelog?

A product changelog is a chronological, public log of changes to a software product — new features, improvements, bug fixes, and breaking changes — grouped by release date and version. The widely-used Keep a Changelog convention groups items into four categories: Added, Changed, Fixed, and Removed. Releases are typically labelled with semantic versioning (e.g. v2.4.0).

Modern SaaS examples include Linear, Stripe, and GitHub. The format is plain Markdown with H2 per version and bullet items prefixed by category. Most teams update their changelog weekly or once per release.

What good changelogs do

  • Date and version every release. Ambiguous dates (“recently”) kill trust.
  • Write for the reader, not the changelog. “Fixed avatar upload on iOS Safari” beats “Resolved upload regression.”
  • Flag breaking changes loudly. A separate ⚠️ tag, deprecation date, and migration link.
  • Publish on a public URL. Anything customers can't link to is a private wiki page, not a changelog.
  • Email it. A changelog nobody reads is a git log with extra steps.

Why bother

A changelog is the cheapest retention you'll ever buy.

Most teams build features in silence. Don't.

Retention

Customers stay when they see you ship.

A live changelog signals an active product. Silence signals the opposite — and silence is what most users see between releases.

Reactivation

Dormant users come back when you email them a feature.

A 'we shipped X' email outperforms a generic 'we miss you' every time. Your changelog list is the email list you forgot to build.

SEO

Every release is a new page Google can rank.

Each entry targets your brand + a specific feature. Compounding free traffic, on autopilot, forever.

FAQ

Honest answers

Is there a free changelog generator with no signup?

Yes — this one. Open the page, type your release notes, copy clean Markdown or HTML. No account, no email, no card. Drafts auto-save in your browser.

How do I write release notes for a software product?

Group changes into four standard categories — Added, Changed, Fixed, Removed (the Keep a Changelog convention) — date each release, label it with a semantic version (e.g. v2.4.0), and write each line in plain language so a non-engineer can understand it. Publish on a public URL and email it to subscribers.

What's the difference between a changelog and release notes?

Release notes describe a single release in detail — usually pitched at customers and may include screenshots or upgrade instructions. A changelog is the chronological log of every release combined, designed for fast scanning. Most teams use the terms interchangeably; the file you publish is the changelog and each entry inside it is the release note.

Where does my draft go when I close the tab?

Drafts are stored in your browser's localStorage. Nothing is sent to our servers. Close the tab, come back tomorrow, and your changelog is still there.

How do I export it?

Two clicks: copy as Markdown, or copy a self-contained HTML page you can drop into any site. You can also download a `.md` or `.html` file. All exports work offline. No account needed.

Why pay you to host it instead of self-hosting?

Three reasons. (1) A subscribe form your customers actually use. (2) Automatic emails when you publish a release. (3) An indexable URL on a Peeqback subdomain (or your own domain on Pro). The 14-day trial is free and we don't ask for a card.

What kinds of updates can I list?

Each release supports New (✨), Improved (⚡), Fixed (🐛), and Breaking (⚠️). Add as many releases and items as you want — the preview updates as you type.

Will exports include your branding?

Exports include a one-line `Made with Peeqback` credit at the bottom. Pro plan removes it. Fair trade for a tool that costs nothing.
